From March 11, 2022, the foyer exhibition at the smac presents an impressive and above all comprehensible exploration of a very special archaeological find: one of the oldest trousers in the world to date. It comes from a 3000-year-old tomb near Turfan in western China. An international team of archaeologists, fashion designers, geoscientists, chemists and restorers spent five years researching the age, material and construction of trousers and all clothing items. To test their hypothesis, they rebuilt the trousers faithfully.
