In 1920, the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz received an extensive donation of around 2,000 prints from the descendants of the married couple Brigitte and Hans Robert Thomas from Weiden in the Upper Palatinate. Lithographs, etchings, serigraphs, woodcuts and embossed prints by Eduardo Chillida, Piero Dorazio, Günter Fruhtrunk, Joan Miró, Ernst Wilhelm Nay, Günther Uecker, Victor Vasarely, Andy Warhol and many others illustrate the graphic cosmos of 20th century modern art. One focus is on around 800 prints by the Catalan artist Antoni Tàpies, whose birthday is being celebrated for the 100th time and who is accorded special significance in the exhibition. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Graphic Arts Collection the show pays tribute to the Thomas couple's almost five decades of collecting with a representative selection.
