Due to the longer periods of daylight, the indoor exhibition “Kaufmannspaläste an der Via Regia” in Brüderstraße 9 can reopen its doors.

The season starts on 9 April 2022. At the same time, the Hallenhaus will be the venue for the Silesian Night Reading from 5 to 10 pm. In the Baroque Hall Magdalena Lambertz (art historian and translator) and Dr. Michael Wieler (Mayor) will recite poems from “The Moment. Chwila. ” The hall building at Brüderstraße 9 is not refurbished and allows visitors to immerse themselves in the history of its construction. In addition to the main exhibit, the building itself, there are outstanding photo installations by Ulrich Schwarz. On display are a selection of exemplary buildings on the via Regia in Poland with the stations Liebenthal, Greiffenberg, Schweidnitz, Krakow and Jaroslau. The building cubature of Brüderstraße 9 is shown in a high-precision 3-D print. The building’s anatomy is thus visible and comprehensible in three cross-sections.
Visitors can also see the development of the Görlitz Hall Houses in LEGO construction in an animated film. The building Brüderstraße 9 is not only an exhibition venue, but also serves for research purposes. The Görlitzer Ratsarchivar has been researching the chronologies of the owners of selected Görlitz halls for several years. He discovered that not only the names of the owners can be identified for this hall house, as well as for most other Görlitz indoor buildings. Surprisingly, it is possible to gain a wealth of insight into how the people living in the house, through their activities and changing living and working needs, have influenced the ongoing renovation of the houses and shaped the functionality of the buildings. The building offers a glimpse into past times. Typical wall designs and fittings from GDR times are well preserved.
Restorative findings were carried out in 2019 on the ceiling, walls and floor structure in the former hall of the first floor by Mrs. Sabrina Gabriel. At that time, Ms. Gabriel was a student at the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt and undertook stock and condition investigations as part of her master’s thesis. Insights into the interior of the construction and the historical decoration program were gained.
