Easter in Bautzen is a cultural highlight of the region that attracts visitors from near and far every year. An important part of it is the Easter riding.
The living tradition has been cultivated in Bautzen for many centuries. With interruptions due to a wide variety of circumstances, the Easter Riding has become a permanent fixture in the life of the Sorbian Catholic community in Bautzen.
This year there will once again be over 50 riders with their horses carrying the Easter message of the resurrection far into the Bautzen region. On their procession to the neighbouring community of Radibor and on the way back, the Easter riders will sing and pray in Sorbian about the resurrection of Christ. The Sorbian Easter Riding in Bautzen, but also in the surrounding communities, is currently a significant religious and national event.
