Concert with songs by Rio Reiser and Ton Steine Scherben
On May 24, 1996, Rio Reiser played in the sold out malt house in Plauen. It was the sixteenth of a total of twenty-four concerts planned. One day later, the tour was cancelled for health reasons. The singer, who always gave everything at each of his concerts, was devastated. A few months later, on August 20, 1996, Rio Reiser died at the age of 46. The concert in Plauen was the last official one before his death. Even today, a memorial plaque at the Malzhaus commemorates Rio Reiser and its connection to the Vogtland.
On the occasion of the 900th anniversary of the city of Plauen, we want to revive the memory of an outstanding artist. Also because his political and poetic lyrics are more relevant than ever. In the form of a concert enriched with lyrics, we will explore the musical legacy of Rio Reiser and Ton Steine Scherben, reinterpret and bring it to the big stage. The focus will not be on the retelling of the biographical, but on the music, its effect and the us of a collective memory.
