6th Saxon Miners' Day, Hütten und Knappentag

At a glance

Glück auf in Olbernhau

For the first time a Saxon Miners' Day, Hütten und Knappentag is held in a town exclusively dominated by the iron and steel industry. In 1537, the Saigerhütte was founded in the “green valley above Olbernhau. ” In the Saigerhütte Olbernhau-Grünthal, the precious metal was melted out of silver-containing black copper in a multi-stage process. 453 years of mining industry shaped the city and the area of the Saigerhütte, which has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Mining Region Erzgebirge since 2019.
