It's getting cultural: over 50 events in Central Germany invite you to a musical festival in a class of its own.
The MDR Music Summer is a unique ARD music festival that has taken place every year in the summer months throughout central Germany since 1992. As an area festival, MDR brings around 50 concerts to different regions of its broadcast area. The MDR Music Summer offers a broad spectrum that includes classical concerts as well as concerts from the fields of singer-songwriter, world music, crossover and jazz.
From Eisenach to Görlitz, from Havelberg to Bad Elster: from 17 June to 26 August 2023, the MDR Music Summer will be on the road throughout Central Germany for the 32nd time, underlining its regional ties. MDR KLASSIK and MDR KULTUR accompany the MDR Music Summer with multimedia and round off the concert enjoyment with stories and portraits. In Saxony you can enjoy events at these venues:
The venue for the Festival's opening on 17 June 2023 is the Thuringian royal seat of Gotha. The MDR Radio Choir, conducted by Philipp Ahmann, will conclude the festival with sacred choral music by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy in the Schlosskirche Wittenberg on 26 August 2023.
