Cabinets, plinths, lamps, monitors and object descriptions - everything is still in place. What is missing are the exhibition objects. From 17 to 27 August 2023, the renowned art festival Begehungen wants to invite visitors to rediscover these abandoned rooms in the Palais Lichtenstein/ Sa., the former Daetz Centre.
Courthouse, widow's palace, prisoner-of-war camp, refugee accommodation, tenement, exhibition venue - this incomplete list illustrates the house's chequered history. With the concise festival title "etc. pp" is intended to continue this list symbolically and, as it were, to refer to the possible future of the object.
Collection of Collections
But the title also formulates the thematic framework of the festival. This year, artists are invited to submit works on the theme of collecting or to engage with the history of the house. However, this invitation goes not only to the art world, but also to the people of Lichtenstein. The people of Lichtenstein are encouraged to contribute their very own private collections.
Lichtenstein/Sa. as part of the European Capital of Culture 2025
The Begehungen art festival is an official part of the programme for the European Capital of Culture 2025 Chemnitz. In a process leading up to the Capital of Culture year, the festival will take place in the cultural region around Chemnitz between 2022 and 2024. In 2022, at the premiere of this format, 12,000 people visited the former Erzgebirge baths in Thalheim.
In addition to the internationally designed exhibition, the public can expect an extensive festival programme with concerts, readings, lectures and discussion panels. Admission is free.
