18th International Jazz Days in Bad Elster

At a glance

From 19 to 21 August 2022, the 18th International Jazz Days will take place in the cultural and festival city of Bad Elster.

The historic “Festspielmile der Kurz Wege” in Bad Elster is completely immersed in summery jazz colours and “jazzy feelings” unfold in the middle of the Saxon State Spa.
The International Jazz Days will open on Friday with the exciting big band theatre show of Albie Donnelly’s Supercharge (19. 08. ) at the King Albert Theatre. The focus is on the charismatic Liverpool character head Albie Donnelly, who delivers an energetic mix of stage presence, show, choreography, humour, perfection and virtuosity with his seven-piece band. Swing brass movements, wobbling Hammond sounds, well-dosed clown – fun in itself! The highlight on Saturday will be an exclusive concert of the Söhne Mannheim Jazz Department with the Cologne singer Phalleé (20 August) in the special theatre atmosphere of Bad Elster. This creates an enchanting magic that hugs the audience warmly and cordially. Reduced to the core of iconic melodies, with refined phrasing, exciting rhythm changes and Kosho’s sensitive guitar playing, Söhne’s hits like “Das hat die Welt noch nicht sehen” become feather-lightly floating jazz pop pearls. To conclude the Jazz Days on Sunday, 21 August, Bad Elster presents a very special picnic concert by the internationally acclaimed top ensemble German Brass in the middle of the Royal Facilities as the festival venue of the MDR music summer. In the natural backdrop of the park behind the KunstWandelhalle, the public awaits a bright summer day of wind sounds. These musicians are turning tin to gold. Gold for the ears of their audience. Whether they play the moving Bach, the mighty Wagner or modern evergreens – the sound of German Brass strikes even the most demanding audience in the heart.
The Jazztage program will be rounded off on Sunday with a piano matinee in the KunstWandelhalle. To this end, a unique world of lights stages the summer nights in the Royal Complexes.
