Seven regions in Saxony, each one with its own character and at the same time still “so Saxony”: Wherever you go, you will find beautiful scenery and cultural treasures but there are also many unique surprises and highlights to discover in each region, such as more than 20 lakes in the Leipzig region, the cradle of modern automobile manufacturing in Chemnitz-Zwickau or a centuries-old wine-growing tradition in Dresden Elbland. But we don't want to give too much away and let you discover Saxony's regions and their welcoming hosts yourself. Take a look at our tips to find the destination that best suits your idea of a perfect active, cultural or family holiday. Then pick your favourites and get planning!

Which region is your perfect fit?

  • Water sports are your thing? Canoeing, rafting, bodyboarding or just swimming and relaxing by the water? The Leipzig Region with over 20 lakes is your perfect destination then!

  • You feel your best when letting your gaze roam over stunning landscapes? Head to Saxon Switzerland and the Elbe Sandstone Mountains!

  • If you love snow sports and have a soft spot for the magic of Christmas, put the Ore Mountains on your list for a festive season trip. Spring, summer and autumn are also great for outdoor adventures and discovering the region’s unique arts and crafts tradition!

  • Hiking boots on your feet, rucksack on your back - and then off into a gently rolling mountain landscape. Does that sound like you? Put the Vogtland  region on your list!

  • Scenic cycling tours during the day and cultural highlights at the Semper Opera in the evening – the Dresden Elbland  region bridges the gap between big city highlights and romantic countryside experiences with ease.

  • Chemnitz-Zwickau is the place to go for discovering Saxony’s unique industrial heritage which tells a very personal story about the region and its people – not to mention features some fabulous industrial architecture!

  • Do you love camping and enjoying culture in the open air? In Upper Lusatia, the Lusatian Lakeland, numerous palaces and castles and the famous gardens of Prince Pückler in Bad Muskau are waiting to be discovered by you
