Summer highlight 2024:

Football fever in Leipzig

Leipzig is one of the ten German cities hosting the UEFA EURO 2024™. Our tips for your trip

  • “BurgenLandKlänge" is a series of diverse concerts (in fact, more than 100 events!) all taking place in unusual venues such as a stage on a lake or at the famous Colditz Castle. Expect unique musical moments!

  • Thrills galore: At the canoeing centre in Markleeberg, one of Europe’s most modern white-water facilities, things get wild. Try rafting, wave surfing or bodyboarding.

  • For something a bit more leisurely, we recommend a a canoe tour (great for families!) on the Mulde river or from Leipzig’s city harbour to Lake Cospuden, which is part of Leipzig New Lakeland where various routes connect approximately 125 miles of waterways – and the views of the landscape along the banks are simply enchanting!

  • The local stretch of the Lutherweg hiking trail is a loop taking ramblers through the best of the region’s landscapes past churches and castles and taking in wide heathland areas as well as woodlands.

  • Get on your bikes: Leipzig Region features a very comprehensive network of cycling routes, including numerous long-distance cycle routes and major regional cycle routes running in all directions. Choose a stretch from the Elbe Cycle Route, Mulder Cycle Route, “Obstland” Route or the Four Lakes Cycle Network. Be it sportive riders or families with children, all levels and requirements are covered.

  • Nothing better than a proper farmers’ market. Around Leipzig, you’ll find lots of them featuring the best of the region’s fresh produce as well as arts and crafts products. Our tips: the markets at Buch Monastery near Leisnig, at Grimma Monastery Church, in Delitzsch (evenings) and in Rochlitz.

  • Leipzig Region is full of castles, fortresses, and churches. How about stepping back into medieval times at Mildenstein Castle in Leisnig? The view of the Mulde river valley to be had from here is a treat. More ideas: Kriebstein Castle and Rochlitz Castle with its impressive cloister.

  • Leipzig New Lakeland features a whooping 20 lakes for water fun and recreation. You can go on leisurely boat trips on Lake Markkleeberg or try water sports at Lake Schladitz. At Lake Störmthal, you can even go up in the air with jet packs and fly boards.

Things to pack

Swimwear

Dip into the region’s lakes for a relaxing swim. The beach on the northern shore of Lake Cospuden is a local favourite, with crystal-clear water, a fine sandy beach and plenty of options for food and drink. Plus, there is also a pier providing full accessibility for people with physical disabilities.
